Our KCA brand has been wearing green for the last 27 years, so it’s no surprise that we are big fans of the colour. People associate the colour green with nature and green is known to conjure up powerful feelings of life, renewal and health, making it a popular choice for the home, especially the kitchen. If you love the colour green and would like to learn how to incorporate it into your space, we’ve created some ideas to help inspire the perfect green kitchen design to suit your style.
Choosing the Right Shade or Hue
The first step in creating the green kitchen of your dreams is to find the right shade for your look. Although there are no hard and fast rules, certain shades of green compliment certain kitchen styles better than others, with certain hues evoking a different feeling within the space.
Dark Green and Grey-Green Kitchens
Dark green shades create a sense of depth and drama whilst also adding warmth. Dark greens with grey undertones are a great way to inject colour into a space whilst staying within a more neutral palette. Much like classic blue, dark inky greens are the perfect shade for heritage styles that create a timeless look with a connection to the past. Dark green shades pair particularly well with marble worktops or splashbacks and warm mixed metals such as copper and brass. Dark green hues work well with vintage furniture pieces, classic shaker cabinetry and designs with industrial elements.
When choosing dark green shades, consider the available natural and artificial lighting in the room. For smaller kitchens, darker tones can make the space feel smaller and cavernous which can be a positive or negative depending on the atmosphere that you are trying to achieve.
Darker hues of grey, blue and green lend themselves well to monochromatic designs which embrace the use of colour palettes based on a single colour hue.
Vibrant Green Kitchens
Vibrant greens such as jade, pistachio and lime add a bold pop of colour to a room. When used in large areas, some people can find these bright greens overwhelming however it all depends on your personal taste. If you're feeling bold, embrace one of these shades and go big. Alternatively, you can use these colours as features to bring colour to your kitchen in a more subtle way. Accessories, tiles, splashbacks and wallpaper are all great ways to inject these bold green hues into a kitchen.
To add green to your existing kitchen, you could opt for an exotic green botanical wallpaper. These designs pair wonderfully with contemporary kitchen designs that have a neutral colour palette. Consider accessorising with natural materials such as stone, linens and natural woods like bamboo.
Vibrant green hues such as Jade or Lime also lend themselves well to colour-blocking; the design principle of pairing two or more colours together. Most kitchen designs use contrasting cabinets, worktops and wall colours to create depth so you could consider combining lime green with white or dark grey cabinetry.
For those not afraid of colour, why not pair a vibrant green with another colour. Remember to choose colours that are opposite on the colour wheel. For example, jade green and pastel pink create a contrasting yet harmonious palette that is vibrant yet unoffensive. Whichever tint, tone or shade of green you choose, if used correctly it is an incredibly versatile colour that can be applied to any style of kitchen.
